Clean Eating Tips for Beginners

Beginning a clean diet for busy moms.

Start out small

If you are anything like me, you have to start out small. Trying to do clean eating all at once can be overwhelming. One of the first steps you can take is by eliminating all processed foods and sugary beverages. This is a huge step in beginning your clean eating journey.

Plan out your meals

As much as I try to do clean eating, I am most successful whenever I plan out our meals. If you can commit to planning out your meals, then you can commit to actually cooking them. I use the meal planner in the Commit to be Fit: Fitness Tracking Binder.

Keep clean eating simple

One of the things I love most about clean eating is that it does not have to be hard, you can keep it simple. For example, eating eggs and sausage for breakfast, this is clean eating! It does not have to be hard, so do not make it hard. Fruits, veggies, and meats are all examples of simple food that are considered clean eating.

My favorite clean breakfast meal is egg whites scrambled with spinach and chili pepper flakes. It does not have to be hard, so do not make it hard. Fruits, veggies, and meats are all examples of simple food that are considered clean eating.

When I am in a rush I grab two hard boiled eggs and a half of a grapefruit.

Ask others for advice

In your clean eating journey, you will want to ask others for advice. I am a part of many different groups on Facebook. These groups help me stay focused and help me achieve more of my clean eating goals than I ever thought possible. One of my goals in 2017 is to surround myself with other people who are also clean eaters.

In fact, I started a Gym Craft Laundry fitness group that is made up of women who support and motivate each other in our fitness journey. We’d love to have you! Join us —–> Gym Craft Laundry: Fitting in the Fitness

Know where to shop

A lot of people will shy away from clean eating because they think it is too expensive. When you know where to shop for your food supplies, you will be much more successful.

Make it a mental note that you will not buy processed foods. Some say that if you stick to the outside perimeters of the store (which is what I do), you will only come across “real food.”

Get the whole family on board

Another tip for beginners who want to eat a healthier diet is to get the whole family on board. It is much easier to make one meal for the whole family than it is to make several. You will burn yourself out quickly trying to cook different meals for your family.

For the stubborn family members, I do make some adjustments. If it’s spaghetti night, I will make whole wheat noodles for the rest of the family but eat my sauce over spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles.

  1. Thanks for sharing this! I am starting to eat health and be health conscious. I think we really have to move for better health. Thanks for sharing your tips.

  2. I don’t think our household’s diet will ever go totally clean (much like the state of our house! LOL) but we do try to eat as minimally processed as possible. I’ve “shopped the perimeter” for a long time now, but I still make a few trips to the middle for cereal and chips!
