Do you get a little tired of drinking the same smoothies every day? I do too. After a workout, nothing is as refreshing as a cold protein shake. But after a while, it can get a little boring.
Since I’m trying to limit my sugar intake, my protein shakes double duty as a tasty treat. Giving up sugar is hard. I even went so far as to eliminate it from my coffee which is a BIG deal. Furthermore, I’m a big coffee snob and don’t even like to use stevia instead of real sugar. I am perfectly fine not adding sugar to anything, but I’ve never been able to eradicate it from my morning ritual until now.
That being said, I’ve been a touch cranky. Lemon water and added potassium have helped with the cravings but a little bit of fruit with my protein works much better.
This month I’m sharing a blackberry vanilla smoothie. My blackberries are in bloom and I can’t wait to pick some fresh ripe ones to use.
Ingredients:
1 container Vanilla Premier Protein (11oz)
12 blackberries which provide a touch of sweetness and antioxidants
1/2 cup ice
1 tablespoon milled flax seed for its healthy fat content.
Directions:
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend well.
Pour into a tall glass or a smoothie bottle and enjoy!
The milled or ground flax seed gives the smoothie a nice nutty flavor. I may add some chia seeds next time. I’ve also made this recipe with blueberries. The sky’s the limit!
