When I decided on the new site name, I excitedly told a close friend of mine. She gave me her normal deadpan glare and said “You don’t even go to the gym. I’m going to call you out on your blog.”
Don’t get me wrong. As I said in my name change announcement, my days are normally filled with exercise, crafts, and cleaning. I just did all my workouts at home with my treadmill and other home equipment. When the children were younger and I was still working away from the home, I had no choice but to customize my exercise regimen to what would work best for me at that time. (If you want to see how I fit in workouts when I could not go to a gym click here.)
But my kids are both in school now and I do have time to go to a gym. I’ve also outgrown my old workouts.
So right before my rebranding and domain change, I signed up at LA Fitness (because it is so close to my house that I can’t claim distance as an excuse not to go) and even went and worked out.
If you see me walking funny…
I tried to bench press with a bar for the first time. So I can’t lift my arms today.
I also tried to do squats with the bar–why I can’t walk today.
And then my friend and generous workout partner had me do walking lunges with a weight plate. I tried to cheat when she went to put her own weight away but she caught me and made me start over.
So there it is, the “Gym” part of my website.
I don’t have a goal of entering a fitness competition. I don’t have plans to run a marathon. (But I do have a goal of running a 15k in March!) I don’t have a certain number of pounds I want to lose.
I want to be as healthy and fit as possible because I feel better when I am in shape.
Exercise is half of it.
The other half is the food.
To lose weight you have to eat the right food, regularly.
My first step in this aspect is to incorporate breakfast. For people like me that don’t like to eat breakfast and don’t have much time for breakfast, the smoothie is the easiest option.
My easy strawberry banana protein shake:
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 small banana (I like mine frozen)
3 whole frozen strawberries
1 TBL milled flax seed
1 cup water
1 scoop Strawberry Banana Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein
Blend it together and enjoy!
Yes, that is a beer mug!
What is your favorite quick and healthy breakfast option?

My youngest would go crazy for these. She LOVES bananas. I love all of the protein aspect, such a fun, healthier treat.

I definitely need to start making smoothies for breakfast instead of getting crackers out of the vending machine at work! Thanks so much for linking up with us at Mommy Needs a Timeout Thursday! See you this week! We party at 8 pm EST on Wednesday!

I go in phases where I’m committed to going to the gym and exercising and do so 4-5 times a week; now isn’t one of those times. Need to get back on it – I find exercising at home helps circumvent my laziness. 🙂 Best of luck with your fitness goals Herchel! -Iva

Thanks! I am the same way actually. I found that the best way to control my diet is to work out, because once I worked my butt off at the gym I don’t want to ruin it with yummy bad food.

Now if you could make a smoothie warm, I’d drink it in the fall/winter! I can’t stand cold drinks on a cold morning. LOL!

Lol! I am the exact opposite. I was the kid in high school that used to eat ice cream outside in the winter so that might inside temperature would match my outside temperature and I wouldn’t feel as cold.

Very funny! The smoothie looks good! I have fitness in my blog tagline and I don’t go to a gym. I don’t think you need to go to a gym to get a good workout in! Although, it’s sometimes nice to get out of the house and have a designated time to workout.
