Have an adventure and support literacy

I was always a bookworm. My family still reminds me of how I used to always have my nose in a book, even amidst the craziness of our family Thanksgiving Dinners.

That is one of the reasons it warms my heart when I catch my kiddos reading.

But…I didn’t spend much time outside. As a child, I didn’t participate in team sports. I didn’t even figure out how being physically strong and in shape could sharpen my thinking ability until I was over 30.

I don’t want that for my kids. I am so grateful to have a husband that spent his entire childhood playing sports. (Ironically, he didn’t discover his joy of reading until after he turned 30!) Physical activity is something we incorporate into our lives.

Do you remember the Pizza Hut program where you would read so many books and earn a free personal pan pizza? I LOVED that program.

Though I obviously focus on feeding my family whole unprocessed foods, I still believe that all things are ok in moderation. Pizza night (or day) is a family fun tradition.

You don’t have to reserve Pizza for movie nights, especially when you can support a good cause at the same time! 

Pea is reading Charlotte’s Web and asked if she could get other E.B. White books. I loved Trumpet of the Swan as a child and I totally did not expect this from her. She’s been on a Whatever High and Princess Posey kick lately.

It reminded me of all the books I read as a kid and our trips to Pizza Hut. This weekend, I decided to take my kids on a playground adventure to get in some outside time.

But first, we decided to swing by Pizza Hut to grab some lunch. Did you know that Pizza Hut still supports literacy?

They have new Fruit Shoot® drinks that are made for adventures like ours! Five cents from each Fruit Shoot® purchased is donated to First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides books and other educational resources to educators serving children in need.

Pizza at the Park

We grabbed a pizza and some Fruit Shoot® drinks and headed to a park that was a little further from our home than our usual playground haunts.

The kids and I explored the playground and the large park behind it.

Park Street in Jacksonville, FL isn’t called Park Street for nothing! It’s a beautiful area.

The grassy expanses are perfect for spreading a blanket and reading a good book in the sunshine.

This week has been a busy week for the husband and I who both work from home. So the kids have spent more time reading indoors than they normally do. It’s easy to forget how much less time they spend outside once soccer season ends.

The pizza at the park was the perfect reward for a week spent inside. Plus, the kids got to drink a bunch of Fruit Shoot® drinks. They enjoyed the taste while I was happy to support literacy.
