The horrible housewife: Supplies and basic duties

Yes, I am going into this fall organization and fall cleaning project as a “horrible housewife.”  But I did want to clear up a few things 😉

I do have a clutter problem and I hate to organize.

However, I don’t actually hate “cleaning” and I am not such a horrible housewife that my house is filled with germs.

This is my baseline–the starting point from which I want to improve during this fall cleaning.

These are the “cleaning” tasks that I already routinely do.

  • mop floors at least once a week
  • clean bathrooms at least once a week
  • dishes daily
  • laundry all the freaking time
  • folding and putting away laundry–need to improve
  • vacuum weekly
  • clean bedding weekly
  • sweep floors
  • monthly-clean fan blades
  • dust occasionally

Supplies

homemaking, horrible housewife, organize linen closet, towel closet, home organization, fall cleaning, fall organizing

One thing that I just did after years of prompting from my husband was bought a “cleaning supplies bucket.”  I had my cleaning supplies scattered between both bathrooms, under the kitchen sink, and in the garage.  (I left the toilet cleaners in the bathrooms–a bottle for each–because I do not use them in other rooms.)  I gathered the supplies that I use and put them in the bucket to be kept under the main bathroom sink.  I chose that location because it has the most room in the cupboard under the sink and because it is the area that I clean the most.  I normally clean the bathrooms more than once a week.

I also use a mix of homemade and store bought cleansers.

Homemade

Blue Magic

Carpet Deodorizer

Bathroom Floors–Vinegar, Washing Soda, Blue Dawn (This mix breaks down urine and is perfect when you have a little boy that misses the target.)

Wet wipes (I wipe up little toothpaste spills etc with them.)

    1. The kids clean with the vinegar and dawn in the shower 🙂 they tend to get spray happy so I don’t let them use cleaners anywhere else except the sliding glass door (vinegar)
