You probably can’t tell but we really like to dress up in this family. And we kind of like superheroes. Both the hubs and I are major nerds and are raising two little nerds.
Superheroes are a pop culture favorite and also valuable as a teaching tool for parents. Last week Pork Chop got into a little trouble at school. His behavior was not his norm and threw us for a loop. He had to be reminded that roughhousing on the slide during recess, while fun, is dangerous and can result in serious injury to one of his classmates.
He lost his recess privilege the next day, which he didn’t seem to mind. His teacher had him run laps around the playground, which he considered a great way to get ready for his soccer game that night. So Hubs and I decided that as part of his punishment, he would stand up in front of his class and give a quick statement about playground safety. I’ve never heard a little boy beg so hard to just be grounded from all electronics for longer. He really didn’t want to stand up in front of his class. In the end, he did it and nailed it.
He stood up in front of the class and said, “It is important to use the playground equipment properly and safely. We protect people, not harm them.” (He came up with that.)
One of our family mottos is “We protect people, not harm them.” Our family, both on my husband’s side and my side, have roots in the Armed Forces and is something we have always instilled in our children.
Pork Chop and Pea are fascinated by superheroes. Pea believes that her special power is her super-sensitive sense of smell. She might be right. She can detect and correctly identify smells long before anybody else in the family can. Smelling fried chicken will even wake her up from deep sleep to search for the source! She also has a super loud voice but that ability might be one shared by most girls.
That’s why we are so excited by MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron being released tomorrow, May 1st. What better way to prepare for the new movie then by dressing up and watching the first one.
We headed to Walmart to grab some costume stuff. Okay–we already had some of it because we do love costumes. This is on of the things we do for fun around here.
Be sure to download the free Superheros Assemble apps for the iPhone or android and get updates on all the Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron content. Unlock characters and a comic book by scanning in pictures on Walmart displays!
Pork Chop (7yo):
This kid had the most difficult time choosing which one he wanted to be. He already had an Iron Man costume at home and also loves Captain America. He really just wanted to play with the shield I suspect.
Pea (6yo):
She chose to be Black Widow but that was no surprise to me. She has that uber confident personality and great hair!
Me:
They always told me to dress for the job I want. So I chose the Hulk! I’m not a fan of the color green though.
If I had to choose who in our family best embodied each superhero, I would have chosen Iron Man for my son. Just like Stark, Pork Chop is resourceful and fascinated by mechanics and engineering.
Captain America would be better represented by the hubs who is one of the most patriotic people I know and serves his country every day. But Pork Chop really likes Captain America’s shield.
I would still choose the Hulk for myself, but I would also make a pretty impressive Agent of Shield. Hulk was so fun that my mask and hands kept getting stolen.
After we got done running around and playing, we went inside for a snack and a movie.
Which Avenger are you? Are you joining in the superhero fun?

I’m Black Widow. Total confident flirt with red hair. I do love Tony Stark, though. Yes, yes I do. My husband is ABSOLUTELY Hulk. Without a doubt. My eldest is Tony, my daughter is Thor before he becomes humble, and my youngest son is Captain America. He’s so caring and sweet. #client

Lol you make a great point! My husband is probably more like Thor than Captain America. I am more Bruce than Hulk. We’ve always called my daughter the hulk because she was born with a hulk o meter temper.

This looks like so much fun! We love playing and dressing up too!
