Sometimes motivation comes from unlikely places

Last week I only made it to the gym once.  Pea’s juvenile arthritis flared and we had a few days of being up all night and missing school.

This weekend was busy with soccer and my fabulously talented niece’s surprise 18th party.  We had a blast.  Big families are awesome!

The kids are also out for spring break this week and Pork Chop’s best friend is keeping us company so the gym will have to be pushed back on my schedule to the evenings we don’t have soccer.

Today we had a fun day playing outside and working on an art project.  That being said, I wasn’t exactly feeling the gym this evening.

At close to 6:30 pm I finally got the kids in the car and headed to the gym.

Even so, I really wanted to turn around and go back home I scanned the parking lot for an empty spot.  The gym is PACKED on Monday evenings.  I said it out loud.  “I am really not feeling the gym right now.  I don’t want to work out.”

From the backseat, the mini dictator that’s taken up a lot of my attention the last two weeks piped up and said, “When I am dehydrated, I don’t feel like drinking water–but I still have to do it anyway.  Sometimes we have to do what we don’t want to do.  Right, Mommy?”

Sometimes motivation to work out comes from an unlikely source…

This little girl that drags her feet about going to the gym’s kids club (although she always has fun) was kindly telling me to “suck it up buttercup.”

Well thank you, young grasshopper, for your words of wisdom.

I powered through my workout tonight and it felt good to finish.  Tomorrow we have a long day of walking around the zoo planned and what better way to recover from leg day than a few hours of leisurely strolling?

Let’s see if my mother in law beats me this week in steps.  I am kind of tired of all her taunting 😉  I will be putting my new New Balance shoes to good use.

Have you ever had motivation come from an unlikely place?  I would love to hear about it in the comments.

  2. I love it when our kids speak words of wisdom back at us. My toddler does the same thing. I’ve been encouraged when sad or distracted, corrected when exercising (“no mommy, do it like this!!”), you name it. In the very least, it shows that something I’m trying to teach him sticks!

    1. I guess this means that she is learning the importance of physical activity?? lol

I am so sad that my camera is broken. I love taking pictures of the animals.

    1. I’m weird. When my legs are sore, walking and cardio seem to help. I am hoping that I didn’t miss so many workouts that I go back to “new to working out” soreness levels and stick with normal sore. When I took two weeks off for Christmas that first week back was a killer. I was only out one week this time though….
