Personal Safety: Is your routine too predictable?

March 26, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 17 Comments

This week has been a big deviation from my daily routine, mostly because one of my children is on spring break.  I park in roughly the same spot every morning at the same time and we walk my son to his classroom door. Then I drop Pea off at school and go home for a couple of hours before the pickups start. However, due the weather and a juvenile arthritis flare, we were … [Read more...]

Five Healthy School Lunch Bento Box Ideas

March 10, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 19 Comments

I used to get so frustrated that my son had so much food left over in his lunch box.  That is, until I went and had lunch with him one day.  Those poor kids only have 20 minutes to eat!  When I saw this, I knew I had to make some adjustments to the lunches I packed him.  The kids aren't allowed to eat their "snacks" in the lunchbox until the main food (the sandwich) is … [Read more...]

February 20, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 14 Comments

I "volunteered" at the elementary school yesterday.  And volunteer is in quotes because is it really volunteering if the school requires so many "volunteer" hours from the parents and then send you threatening official letters about how your children will not be welcomed back next school year if you don't hit the required hours?  Oh, it is?  Then yesterday I volunteered at my … [Read more...]

My dirty little daycare secret

February 4, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 29 Comments

Both my kids are still registered in daycare.  Yes, even though I am staying home with them now I can always bring them in for a daily rate.   It's call "drop in" status and hangs there like a trapeze net to catch me if I fall.  Not that I think I will fall or anything... Of course I could always drop them off at one of my "non-working" cousins' homes.  But for not working … [Read more...]
