Apparently, I am a glutton for punishment mean mom. Our kids have been restricted from their tablets for a month–since before school ended. As a matter of fact, they haven’t been able to use any electronics. I do allow a little bit of television while I work a couple hours a day.

We’ve made several trips to the library, played in the pool, and crafted up a storm.

Pork Chop and Pea have also been doing extra help around the house to earn back electronics time. The restriction is cloaked in punishment…but my goal is something completely different.

With all the time they spend making things in Minecraft, they should have something real to show for it–but they don’t. Minecraft items aren’t real. So we are trying to do more hands on activities this summer.
If you have the same goals, here is a decoupage idea for you! Decoupage kids crafts are quick and easy. They don’t require perfection so is the perfect kids project.

Cut your fabric into 1″ strips and then into various sized pieces, about 1″ or smaller.

Apply mod podge to your birdhouse with a foam brush and affix fabric. Cover fabric with mod podge once attached. Repeat, overlapping fabric until the entire birdhouse is covered.

  1. Perfect, simple craft for the kiddos. But actually, I’m wanting to try it myself. It’s the simple things, right? And kudos to you for your little ‘experiment’. All parents should be that aware and desire a bit more for their kids’ minds and creativity. Thanks so much for sharing!
