Creepy eyes camouflaged in the bushes

Creepy Glowing Eyes: Easy Halloween Kids Craft

The other day the kids and I saw a whole bunch of empty toilet paper rolls that just happened to be lying around 😉 so we decided to do an easy Halloween kids craft that I saw floating around the internet last year.

Me:  What we are going to do is cut out eyes and put a glow stick in the tube so it looks like there are glowing eyes in the bushes.

Pork Chop:  Won’t people see the tube?

Me:  No, it will be dark so they will be camouflaged.

Pork Chop: No they won’t.  The bushes are green.

Me:  It will be dark.

Pork Chop:  The rolls are still brown.

Me:  Here’s some paint.  Show me what you mean.

So yeah…it turned out to not be as quick as I wanted but that is okay.  I had no problem with the activity taking more of our Saturday up.  I am always up for more crafting less minecrafting–especially when it isn’t even my idea.

If you just cut out the eyes, pop in a glowstick, tape up (or foil over) the ends, and place them in some bushes then it’s a quick and easy Halloween craft.

Or you can talk about camouflaged and the colors of the bushes that you plan to place the tubes in.  We walked outside and “inspected” our creepy bushes.

Then I pulled out the craft paints and let the kids have at them.

It was very interesting to see what their idea of a camouflaged roll ended up looking like.

Pork Chop’s was very “mindcrafty.”  Not surprising since he seems to think of the world in terms of pixellated blocks.  His ended up with spots of green, black, and brown.

Pea sees the world through glittery rose colored lenses and her rolls ended up with lots of bling and sparkles.

They had tons and fun and kept talking about how scary our yard is going to be this year.  The funny thing is that Pea will probably be the person most frightened by the eyes–even though she put them in the bushes!
