Spring cleaning in the kitchen: 4 overlooked areas

Spring Cleaning Tips for the kitchen. The four most overlooked areas in the kitchen.

I originally published this article last year after receiving a box of the products to try. Not going to lie, I came back to my old post to see if the coupon link was updated so I could buy more. And the link does.  Yay! I’m buying the dishwashing liquid and disposal cleaner.  It’s a new year and a new spring cleaning must commence.

I am not going to lie. I am no clean freak! I’m a clutter dropping tornado and my daughter is my mini. Not because I really wanted to clean but because [easyazon_link identifier=”B06XD2BNLK” locale=”US” tag=”scrugcorne-20″]LemiShine’s[/easyazon_link] the products are non-toxic and safe for kids.

I don’t make all the mess myself so why should I clean it all myself? Granted, I’ve done more spring cleaning this year than ever before. My bathroom was given an epic scrub down.

Our garage went from a junk-filled scary place to an awesome gym, complete with squat racks and bumper plates! But as always there are still so many places left to go, including the often overlooked areas in the kitchen. It’s a wreck!

1. Garbage disposal

Our garbage disposal was broken for a good three months! We finally got it working again but it doesn’t smell quite as fresh as it should.

I ran lemon rinds through the garbage disposal. It helped but still didn’t eliminate the odors. I then ran ice through it to sharpen the blades. Finally, I used [easyazon_link identifier=”B00N11SDH2″ locale=”US” tag=”scrugcorne-20″]Lemi Shine’s garbage disposal cleaner.[/easyazon_link] Big difference!

2. Above the refrigerator and the window sills

I’m short at 5’3 and 3/4. So I rarely actually look above the fridge. But the hose leading to the refrigerator sprung a leak last week and we had to pull it out for the handy man. To do that I had to take everything off of it.

We store all of our plastic wrap, aluminum foil, waxed paper, and parchment paper rolls above the refrigerator in a basket. When I need something I simply pull down the basket, get what I need and return it. That was easy.

But we also store our tequila, rum, and adult beverage mixes up there. When I was done bringing everything down, I saw how dirty and dusty the top of the fridge was. [easyazon_link identifier=”B06XDPNQQT” locale=”US” tag=”scrugcorne-20″]Lemishine’s new glass and surface spray[/easyazon_link]did a fantastic job.

It also works wonders on windows and window sills.

3. The dishwasher

The dishwasher is often overlooked. We use it to clean and disinfect our dishes but tend to forget it needs to be cleaned as well. I used [easyazon_link identifier=”B002IT3D78″ locale=”US” tag=”scrugcorne-20″]Lemishine’s dishwasher cleaner[/easyazon_link] then loaded up the dishwasher and used the dishwasher detergent tabs and [easyazon_link identifier=”B0071OUD82″ locale=”US” tag=”scrugcorne-20″]detergent booster[/easyazon_link]to get my dishes squeaky clean.

4. Everything from the floor to a foot high!

I mop quite a bit. It’s my favorite chore. I also wipe down surfaces and counters. But that area near the floor gets neglected. Thank goodness for my little helper. She’s the perfect height for that area! Lemi Shine uses safe, non-toxic, biodegradable and phosphate free ingredients, so not to worry kids, you can help! You can also give these and vinegar spray and wipes to help you clean all those grimey places that you don’t even want to think about right now.

What are the top ten places people forget to spring clean?

Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures

Dust builds up on blades and bulbs, and when fans spin, they spread it around the room.

Baseboards and Trim

These collect dust and grime over time, especially in corners and high-traffic areas.

Behind and Under Appliances

Food particles, dust, and grease accumulate behind your fridge, stove, and washer/dryer.

Air Vents and Filters

Dirty air vents and HVAC filters can reduce air quality and increase energy bills.

Window Tracks and Sills

These get filled with dirt, dead bugs, and mold, especially after winter.

Mattresses

People wash bedding but often forget to vacuum or deodorize the mattress itself.

Cabinet Tops and Inside Drawers

Grease and dust settle on upper cabinet surfaces, and crumbs gather inside drawers.

Behind the Toilet

Hard to reach and easy to ignore, but one of the grimiest spots if left uncleaned.

Remote Controls, Switches, and Door Handles

High-touch items that harbor bacteria and often don’t get wiped down regularly.

Reusable Bags and Cleaning Tools

These carry bacteria and grime and rarely get washed or sanitized themselves.
