DIY Patriotic Burlap Wreath

Beautiful hand-made wreaths are expensive! Have you ever checked the tag on one at a craft or home decor store?

I spend all our money on food so I rarely splurge on decorative items. This forces me to be creative! It’s a bonus that I enjoy decorating our home with handmade projects. Since Memorial Day is approaching followed by the Fourth of July and Labor Day, I had an American flag burlap wreath in mind.

We loved our DIY Red White and Blue Yarn Wreath but one of the kids stepped on it (why was it even on the floor!!!) and broke it in half. Now we need a new one.

Really, patriotism isn’t locked into a holiday. We are patriotic year round.

Directions:
Remove the ribbon from the spool. Begin by tying one end of the ribbon onto the wire form and holding it in place with a twist tie. Just bunch the ribbon together and hold it next to the wire and wrap the twist tie around both the wire and the ribbon.

Notes: If you look at the wire frame, there are six divisions. I purchased four rolls of ribbon but suggest you purchase six rolls, one for each division. If you only have four rolls, like I did, do four rows of ribbon per section. This might make sense better as i tell you how to do it.

Begin by pushing your ribbon through the inside wire section and leaving excess so it bubbles out. Repeat for the two sections above the first. When you’re finished with that, twist the ribbon tightly twice(which is now at the outside part of the form) and then move it back to the inside of the form and repeat the process. As the ribbon “grows” on the frame, slide it toward one another to bunch up.

When your ribbon runs out, affix it to the frame like you did in the first step.

Continue until all of the ribbon is gone.

Lay your wreath flat on a table and go through each loop moving and twisting and opening up any closed loops and making it look a little more random.

Burlap Stars Red White and Blue Wreath

Paint your stars with craft paint. Set aside to dry. I put two coats on each star.

Use a hot glue gun to attach stars to the burlap and hang!
