Sometimes I’m so clueless about things everyone around me seems to know. I had to look up what over/under means in regards to football. Football mania is everywhere right now.
I’ve always associated the phrase with toilet paper.
I don’t know why the people in my life just can’t seem to wrap their minds around the fact that under is clearly better.
Why I think under is the best way to hang my Charmin
The toilet paper looks much neater when the tail is on the back side. It’s so strange to me that the same people that prefer order and organization think that the toilet paper should be over! It looks sloppy.
- Some women complain that their husband doesn’t replace the toilet paper roll. My husband does–but he ALWAYS does it wrong.
- Luckily for me, the toilet paper holder I have makes it a piece of cake to flip. The toilet paper gets flipped over/under every single day!
When the toilet paper is under, it’s easier to grasp and fold the paper. I grasp the last square and fold up. This makes for a nice and neat 7-8 square pad.
Why I now know I’m wrong
Last February, I had the privilege of visiting the Proctor and Gamble headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. I was one of a group of bloggers that have a standing partnership with P&G’s Family Care products which include Charmin, Puffs, and Bounty. It was amazing to get a behind the scenes look at a brand that I am proud to represent.
- This is one company that doesn’t stock their bathroom with the cheap one-ply stuff!
I even got to take a tour of the Flush Lab, where they test paper products to assess flushability.
Photography was restricted in the labs and on the factory floors. So imagine this: a toilet, NASA designed scientifically realistic poop, Charmin, and clear pipes the span of several living rooms. It was so cool.
Toilet paper, paper towels, etc are flushed to see where, why, and how stop ups occur.
I learned that the best number of squares to flush is around seven. As America’s softest bath tissue, Charmin Ultra Soft is so cushiony and absorbent you can use up to 4x less than the leading bargain brand.
We even asked the folks at Proctor and Gamble about the over/under debate and were told that Charmin does not have an official stance on this great debate.
However, the lab technicians did say that folded toilet paper carries a much higher risk of stopping up the toilet than wiping with a crumpled wad.
Which makes my reasoning for being an under supporter null and void. My way is wrong.
I still think it looks better. And truthfully, I may never adopt the crumple method.
I’m an old dog.
My cousin has weekly barbecues during football season and this topic has come up. We have a large family and so there are always in excess of 50 people at the cookouts.
We’ve noticed our host’s toilet paper stance and discussed it several times. But no matter what side of the debate you fall on, all that matters is that you choose Charmin! After the food, drinks, cheers and jeers during the game, your guests will #enjoythego with quality toilet paper. Besides, you can always flip the roll. Which side of the debate do you fall on?

I am totally team over… I can’t believe you’re not??? I see your points but I still always end up switching my family’s replacement to the preferred over position 🙂

Ha ha yes I’m a toilet paper over folder as well. It just doesn’t make sense to me when its under! Maybe its just me but I get so frustrated when I see it under and tempted to swap it out even at other peoples bathroom! lol Crazy I know!

The over/under debate is not one that I’ve paid much attention to. I honestly have no idea what I prefer – I guess it just depends on where I am. It’s so cool that you were able to visit the P&G factory. Where is it located? There’s one of them near my house but I’m not sure they have this technology there.

I am a team over even though I loosely fold usually. I have been known to switch my family’s toilet paper when they have it under. I just can’t help myself. That is interesting to know that crumbled up is better than folded.

I’ve always been team over and crumpled! It’s always been easier to me lol. But, that is interesting to know about folded paper is more likely to clog a toilet than crumpled. It still gets wet dropped into the toilet and should flush with no issues? I’ll have to look into that further. Thanks for sharing!
