Sometimes, the stuff kids say is both hilarious and wise. I know that this unfiltered innocence is fleeting so I have resolved to capture these memories and conversations on this blog so that I can always look back on them and remember.
Sunday evening, the Princess was talking non-stop during dinner. While I was giving Scrugglet #1 his nasty watermelon flavored antibiotic she was chattering away at him. Non-stop. Without breathing.
“Think happy thoughts and you won’t taste it…even if it’s yucky. Think about unicorns and super hero unicorns. It really helps and Mommy always tells me that if I think happy thoughts it will get better. Right, Mommy? Isn’t that what you say? Unicorns are a good happy thought. Like my unicorn makes everyone happy. Right? Right? Unicorns make everyone happy.”
I told both kids earlier that if they ate all their dinner they could have a push pop for dessert. (I got hit by the nostalgia bug while at Sam’s Club and impulse bought 36 frozen push pops.)
Princess Pea had finished all her food except for her chicken. She isn’t so big on proteins unless it’s fried chicken…which this wasn’t. (If I have to eat healthier so do they.) As she was crying and whining about how “DIS-gusting” her chicken was, her brother looks up from sucking on his push up and says,
“You should think about unicorns.”
She was not amused.
Her screeching got louder.
Two valuable lessons from my constantly bickering angels; don’t give advice that you don’t follow yourself and mind your own business. Maybe one day the whole minding your own business thing will sink in for the two of them…I can hope, right?

Sorry it took so long for me to visit but thanks for sharing your adorable story with my Small Victories Sunday linkup! I am always surprised, although I shouldn’t be, when my kids turn my own words against me. When they got hurt, if it was more of a dramatic whine to get their brother in trouble, my hubby would ask them “where’s the blood?” One day, I jammed my shin against something and said “ow! that really hurt” and next thing I hear from my son is, “Where’s the blood, mom?” Thanks for sharing!
