True to Scruggs form there was a bit of Halloween chaos this year. Scrugglet #1 who never gets sick came down with strep throat but was well enough today to go to school and trick or treating with his two best friends who he doesn’t see as much now that they are in three different kindergartens.
The princess started off the day with a small scattering of hives on her leg. They faded quickly with some Benadryl which she was happy about because who wants to miss the parties at preschool?
Unfortunately by two in the afternoon, I got an emergency call at work that her eyes were swelling and her hives were full body. Bigs thanks my cousin for bringing her Benadryl while I raced to her from across town. (PR on commute time today)
Her teacher was afraid someone had snuck in a peanut laced candy.
Doubt it, her school is very diligent at eradicating peanut trespassers.
More Benadryl and a referral to yet another specialist later, P announced that she’s “totally fine” and got into her stroller for some candy collecting fun .
We set my mannequin up on the bench in front of the house so we could giggle over how many people walked up to her to ask for candy. According to Grandpa, many of them did hehe.
If you don’t have a full sized mannequin, you are missing out. Emmy, aka Manni, is tons of family fun. Best birthday gift. Ever.
We finally set out to beg our neighbors for candy….
Halfway up the street, the Princess decided that she was done and sat back in the stroller while the boys went house to house. Smart girl. She knows damn well I put the candy in one big bowl and they share. Work smarter not harder .
By the way, to the neighbor that turned to her husband and said, “the one in the stroller is not as small as I thought.” She is four. She has days when her legs are so swollen and stiff that she can’t walk. Her own immune system is her worst enemy and she is itching like crazy. Mind your own damn business.
I should toilet paper that house.
But the lady probably wasn’t even being as judgmental as I took her to be. I get defensive during weeks like this one. She was probably just surprised she wasn’t the toddler she looked like she was in the stroller. She kind of is toddler sized with a preschool mouth.
After getting home, Princess turned to me and summed up today with a big smile ;
“This was the best day ever.”
The parties and fun overshadowed the itching and pain. I need to turn my princess eyes on so I can see like her. She’s pretty awesome. And so is he.
Not ten minutes after she said this, the hives popped back up on her face. So I guess she got a little Halloween reprieve to trick or treat. But it was still one of the best days ever.

OMG hives are scary! Good thing benedryl saved the day and she still had a fun Halloween! I’m allergy prone, so I always have it in my purse…and an epi pen just in case!

It turns out that she is allergic to one of her meds 🙁 The hives are slowly fading thank goodness. I am prone to them too so it makes me feel so bad for her. It’s horrible being so itchy. (lol she just yelled from the living room that they [the hives] are coming back on her butt cheeks)
