This spring I decided to continue my journey to less dependence on our local grocery store by starting a garden. This is easier said than done when you factor in two scrugglets, a full time job, soccer practice, and a husband overseas…but hey, it can’t be that hard, right? I even planned ahead and thought of the vegetables needed to make my picky eating pre-schoolers favorite soup.
Our swimming pool takes up most of the back yard and the remaining lawn is shaded by large trees so I haul out a large pot and sow some radish seeds. When I say large, I mean about two feet in diameter large. Weeks went by and lots of green things started popping up. One was much larger than the others. Since I wasn’t sure what radish plants look like, I let everything grow without weeding. Soon I could see a radish peeking up from the dirt! Happy dance! I grew radishes!!!! When I felt an adequate amount of time had passed I pulled up my plant and lo and behold, there was ONE RADISH! The other green things were all weeds. I am going to need to work on growing more than one at a time.
The bright side is that now i know what a radish looks like and what the weeds look like 🙂
