My dirty little daycare secret

February 4, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 29 Comments

Both my kids are still registered in daycare.  Yes, even though I am staying home with them now I can always bring them in for a daily rate.   It's call "drop in" status and hangs there like a trapeze net to catch me if I fall.  Not that I think I will fall or anything... Of course I could always drop them off at one of my "non-working" cousins' homes.  But for not working … [Read more...]

That one time the Wet Brush didn’t work :(

February 3, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 4 Comments

There are some battles that I just don't have the strength to fight. Like the full out run-at-the-walls-with-siege-engines-and-swords battle I had with my five year old diva on Friday night. Having a preschooler and kindergartener is great!  They are independent and willing to get what they want.  This is what struck me as I moved the chair from the counter back to the kitchen table for the hundredth time today. I took a long, hard look at how the cupboards were arranged in our home--and they were found wanting. When I was working and we were … [Read more...]

A bit more time

January 14, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 4 Comments

photo source I have had a love affair with books my entire life.   There was nothing that I enjoyed more than escaping into another world through the pages of a book.  I knew “Winter was coming” years (maybe a decade?) before Game of Thrones debuted on HBO. When my nose was not immersed in a book, I escaped into worlds that I built in my own mind.  Worlds … [Read more...]
