Valentine’s Shmalentines

February 13, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 24 Comments

Love, when it is still new and shiny, can be very uncertain territory.  About fifteen years ago, my husband and I were still new in our relationship.  So new, that he thought I was being coy when I stated that Valentine's Day was not a holiday I put much stock in.  It just isn't.  It's a day when people who love each other are obligated to publicly display that love with gifts … [Read more...]

Easy Filled Heart Valentine’s Cards

February 11, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 20 Comments

Last year I bought Valentine's cards.  They were much less work for me.  However, I couldn't help but notice that all the other parents shop at Target too.   There were many duplicates.   This year I decided that we would make cards for my youngest's class and use printed ones for my son's class.   (My son's kindergarten teacher made filling out the cards with each student in … [Read more...]

Each day, my daughter and I pick up my son from kindergarten.  I park and we walk the quarter mile (if that) to the gate.  We cross the street where the majority of the parents are parked waiting for their children to be released.  It's a giant, segmented earthworm of cars stuck on the pavement and unable to move. Every day we walk past the same cars (how early do they get … [Read more...]

My dirty little daycare secret

February 4, 2014 by Herchel Scruggs 29 Comments

Both my kids are still registered in daycare.  Yes, even though I am staying home with them now I can always bring them in for a daily rate.   It's call "drop in" status and hangs there like a trapeze net to catch me if I fall.  Not that I think I will fall or anything... Of course I could always drop them off at one of my "non-working" cousins' homes.  But for not working … [Read more...]
