I have a saying when it comes to how I supplement my kids’ education. When the learning is fun, it sticks.
I’ve always added to their school curriculum with learning activities for kids, kindergarten worksheets, math fact practice, and more. As they get older, I am focusing more on English and grammar.
My son loves math and so is strong in the subject. He doesn’t feel the same about English so gets bored and blows it off. So we work on extra English at home. I’m a mean mom. But least I make it fun!
Pork Chop likes sports and playing with friends.
With the Superbowl coming up this weekend, I came up with this fun football themed activity pack that is perfect for late kindergarten through second grade.
This printable football pack includes a complete the sentence worksheet and free coloring page, a writing prompt, and a fun football activity.
Do you remember that long ago time before smartphones and electronics when kids used to stay busy while waiting for food at a restaurant by playing a tabletop football? Paper would be folded into a triangular shape and the kids would flick it into the goal post or at their partner. This still keeps my son occupied at restaurants. Plus, it’s easy and cheap!
Print out this free football activity pack.
The football game follows the same premise as tabletop football. It can be set up in several ways. It comes with three goal posts that are labeled, noun, verb, and adverb. Based on your child’s skill level you can choose which goals to use. (If your kids are younger it is best to skip adverbs for now.)
I printed the three activity sheets on cardstock and the coloring page and writing pages on copy paper. You can print the football activity pages out on copy paper and laminate. Or you can even print it out on regular copy paper and play the game with the goal posts flat on the ground. I love that this game is so versatile.
I decided that for my 7 and 8 year olds, it would be more fun for them if the posts are standing up so I got a little more elaborate than most would.
How to set up this learning activity for kids:
Materials
Printed out game
scotch tape
scissors
craft sticks *optional
pieces foam plate that vegetables are packaged in (or any two pieces of foam)
Directions
Cut out all the footballs and the goal posts
On the back of the goal posts, tape craft sticks for stability in a T shape.
Cut slit in the foam.
Stick craft stick in the foam slit so that the goal posts stand upright. (You can skip the craft sticks but I found that the posts were a little floppy without them)
To play:
Have your child(ren) stand up a football on end and flick it into the correct goal.
I will be pulling this out on Game Day when the kids get a little bored watching the Superbowl on the television. This will keep them entertained and still in the football spirit!
