Easy Popsicle Recipe: Mandarin Orange Spritzer

It’s time to really “use” frozen popsicles.  Beads of sweat pop up on the bridge of my nose when I step from the coolness of my air conditioned house into the Florida humidity. Homemade ice pops are a necessity in the south!

And as we near the end of the school year, I can hear my kids sniffling. We can’t have that. Summer colds suck! I like to make sure my children get plenty of Vitamin C.  A simple cold or virus, can throw my daughter into a bad flare as her wonky immune system attacks her knee joints and causes swelling and pain after being “activated” to fight off a normal virus.

Mandarin Orange Spritzer Popsicle

A simple cold or virus, can throw my daughter into a bad flare as her wonky immune system attacks her knee joints and causes swelling and pain after being “activated” to fight off a normal virus.  Yeah, autoimmune illnesses suck.

And whatever your stance is on the threat posed by the Zika Virus, a little focus on bolstering our immune systems can’t hurt.

This recipe combines a nice little shot of vitamin C with the rehydrating comfort of ginger ale to make a tasty treat.

I based this popsicle recipe on the Orange Spritzers that I used to serve when I volunteered at a non-profit world goods market and cafe as a teenager.  The market and cafe went out of business long ago, which makes me sad.

Easy Popsicle Recipe:  Mandarin Orange Spritzer popsicles

All you need are three simple ingredients

  • mandarin oranges
  • 1 can of ginger ale
  • orange juice

To make the popsicles:

I added a spoonful of mandarin oranges to each well of the popsicle mold.

Next, I poured in enough orange juice to fill the molds approximately halfway full.

Finally, I topped off the molds with the ginger ale.

Freeze until solid.

Release from the mold by running the bottoms of the popsicle mold under water.

And enjoy!

    1. I found these on clearance at a home store called “at home.” I believe they are owned by Gardenridge. I always buy popsicle molds when I run across them 🙂
