Ask Away Friday with Echo: The one where I reveal my biggest fear and hope my cousins aren’t reading my blog
I am joining in the Ask Away Friday Fun this week! Ask Away Friday is a fun link up where bloggers trade questions in order to get to know each other better. This week I am pairing up with Echo from The Domain of the Mad Mommy. I cannot remember exactly how we met but I know that I love connecting with her on twitter and Google Plus. It looks like we have a lot in common! Read on to see what she asked and how I answered!
1. Scruggbug Corner is such a unique blog name. How did you come up with it?
My last name is Scruggs and Scruggbug Corner sounds very babyish to me. It was originally the name of a baby clothes eBay store that I ran over ten years ago. Then it became the name of my newborn photo prop etsy store. I had the domain so when I started blogging it was a logical choice. Over the last six months the name of my blog has been a constant source of anxiety for me. I felt trapped by the name so when it became apparent that my blog posts really fell into two categories, kid’s crafts/activities and kid organization versus parenting/motherhood/JA articles splitting my blog into two seemed a better choice. Scruggbug Corner will keep the crafty posts and I am hoping that my readers that prefer my mothering posts (aka my “wordy” writings) will join me at Metamomphosis, it is about mothering through the many changes in life.
2. If you had the opportunity to learn 1 thing (only 1 thing) in the blink of an eye, what would you choose to learn?
I would want to learn how to heal, whether supernaturally, or by spontaneously learning all the knowledge of the medical field in one fell swoop. I hate not knowing what to do during medical situations.
3. Tell me about your top 3 travel destinations and why they are your favorites/dreams.
I want to go to Maine and eat fresh lobsters for every meal because…lobsters. I would like to visit Rome because the Pope is there and the city is synonymous with Catholicism. (I know it is sad that I put food before my faith.) Then I would love to go to Hawaii to soak up the sun and surf.
4. If you had to cook me a dish that showed me “who you are” what would you cook?
I would cook my favorite Filipino dish. It is a soup called sinigang. It is made with plenty of fresh vegetables, meat, some lemon juice and tamarin. It is warm, comforting, and hearty, with just a touch of tang, like me! When anyone in my family isn’t feeling well, what they want is me and sinigang. We go together like peas and carrots, my friend.
5. You have a pool. I am insanely jealous! Other than swimming, how do you spend your summers?
I have to be honest. All of our previous summers have been spent pretty much like every other day. I would drop the kids off at daycare and pick them up at the crazy late hour of 6:30 pm due to the commute. We would spend our weekends swimming and relaxing but every other day was another “school day.” This will be my first summer as a stay at home mom. I imagine I will spend it swimming and doing homework (I am taking at least one class over the summer) though we plan on going on vacation sometime in July. My daughter has always been too terrified to really enjoy the water but her Pediatric Rheumatologist told her that swimming is good for her arthritis so she is gung ho about getting into the pool every day now.
She is still uncertain in the water.
6. You craft a lot! How do you find inspiration for crafting?
I have spurts of inspiration coupled with spurts of what the heck am I going to do now. I like crafting. I enjoy making something that I can enjoy, like wall art. I do get inspired when I window shop at pottery barn kids. I love their stuff but it is way too expensive for me to buy!
7. Show off the 3 crafts that you are the most proud of.
I am most proud of the DIY wall decals because they were so easy and much quicker than searching the stores for the ones we wanted. They can be foundhere.
Next would come these suncatchers simply because it was a spur of the moment idea I got when I saw the clear saucers at dollar tree.
I love our Easter Wreath because it turned out so cute and was a family project!
8. What is the one job that, if offered to you, you wouldn’t be able to turn down?
Nothing is more important to me than caring for my family. When they are older and spend more time in school, I would love to be offered a job as a lactation consultant. I believe that women don’t get enough support when it comes to breastfeeding.
9. If you could be in any TV show (animated or real-life), What show would you be in and who would you be? A main character or one all your own?
Hmmm I would be Nikita. I love her. She is strong, funny, and smart…and can protect her family in any situation.
10. Getting to know you, getting to know ALL about you!
List 10 random facts about yourself that will helps us know more about you!
1) Worms make me want to scream in terror and disgust at the same time. Just thinking about them makes me want to vomit. I especially loathe earthworms. I can’t stand that pinky brown color and the legless helplessness.
2) I hate baby rodents for the same reason that I hate worms. That nasty mewling underdeveloped creature. It makes me shudder just thinking about it.
3) I love star wars.
4) I used to play World of Warcraft before I had kids. (Yes, I am that nerdy.)
5) I used to collect fun phone cases until I got tired of breaking my phones and switched to the Lifeproof.
6) I cannot say no to Krispy Kremes.
7) I can play the flute, piccolo, and the oboe
8) I like zombies and ninjas.
9) I didn’t train for my first 5k for health or weight loss reasons. I trained for, and eventually ran it, because I wanted to run a 5k through downtown being chased by “zombies.”
10) I can’t beat my sister in Bejewled Blitz and I have been trying for about 3 years now.
If you still want to visit my blog after reading those ten facts above then I either make you feel less boring or you are just as nuts as I am!
