Connecting with my children

Amid the hustle and bustle of life and my focus on finding balance, my children will always take the lion’s share of my attention, time, and love.  But…sometimes it takes something to remind me when I’ve spent too much time focusing on the gym, blog, and housekeeping.  This time, the entire family was hit by a nasty cold.  I was more affected than the kids.  They were congested and cranky but I was the only one with consistent fevers for a few days.   It forced me to let the gym go (because nobody there wanted my germs and my body was obviously saying that it needed rest) and to let the housework and blog go for a while.  As I started to get better, I realized that my children needed that time off our normal schedule.  They needed the cuddle time on the couch–the family movie and fort day.

When I went to last week’s Family Fun Friday Linkup, the posts that resonated with me were all about family connections and spending time with those that matter.  It was another way that God was speaking to me.

Connecting with your kids

Why Pursue Domestic Excellence?  I love this post because it emphasizes that websites like blogs and Pinterest aren’t about sharing failures or comparisons.  They are about people sharing their strengths with others.

Five Ways to Make a Genuine Connection with your Child  Being in the same room with your child is not the same as making a connection.  These are some great ways to strengthen your bond with your child.

Four things kids need from us All kids need boundaries and time from their parents.  This feature is a great reminder to put things into a big picture perspective when parenting.

Be Active with your kids This time of year is all about goals with many people recognizing their need to be more active.  Being a role model by example makes a big impact but being a good role model by including your child makes an even stronger one!

The Quiet Beauty of the Ordinary Day I love this post because I wholeheartedly believe in “ordinary days.”

Nurturing Growth Mindset  I am a supporter of continuous growth and experiences.  These activities open children to learning!

  1. Thank you for hosting and I’m honored that you would feature my post. I love this post about connecting with children 🙂 I have also been laid low by a most dreadful cold, so no writing got done this week. Hopefully I’ll be linking up next week.
