It’s hard to believe that the holidays are quickly approaching. I seriously feel as though it was just the first day of school. I know we are all busy around the holidays, but I wanted to share some practical tips with you. You know–the stuff I always forget myself.
Do What You Can
Although you’d like to think you are super mom, you are only capable of so much. Try not to injure yourself during the holiday season getting everything done. One major practical tip for busy moms this holiday season is to do what you can. Try not to stress about what you can’t get done. This is the one thing that I have to remind myself of over and over.
You Can’t Please Everyone
Something I’ve really noticed over the years is that it’s nearly impossible to please everyone. We can’t please both of our families or even both of our kids at the same time. Again, another practical tip for busy moms, remember that you can NOT please everyone this holiday season.
Take a Break
Throughout the hustle and bustle of this holiday season, remember to take a break. Even if it is taking five minutes to drink your favorite tea or cup of coffee, (or bottle of wine) it will be well worth it. In order to make the holidays happen, you’re going to need to keep your sanity and you can only do that if you’re able to chill for a minute every once in a while.
Ask for Help
This is also something that is difficult for me to do. My husband tells me all the time that he can’t read my mind. I’ve gotten used to doing everything myself while he has been deployed. There are times that I don’t even think to ask him to give me a hand.
Stay Calm
Remember that you’re trying to create memories for your children, not nightmares. One practical tip for busy moms this holiday season is to stay calm. You certainly want to remain calm, so your children don’t hear you panic every moment of every day. Plus, I always get more done when I’m calm rather than when I’m freaking out.
Write it Down
For the sake of your sanity, write it down. You won’t be able to remember everything you have to do this holiday season, so take a few minutes and write it down. Totally worth it at the end of the day, I promise.
I’m still working on these practical tips myself, but my goal this year is to remain calm and stay focused…and to not be up all night on Christmas Eve.
