I love the simplicity and flexibility of burlap wall art. Whether a piece of burlap, burlap canvas, or a burlap-covered artboard, the DIY decor made with it is rustic, yet stylish!
Now with burlap’s increasing popularity, you can buy it in rolls, sheets, laminated “printable” sheets, and canvas. I’ve seen tote bags, boxes, and photo albums made out of burlap and these methods can be used to personalize any of them.
Many people don’t realize how easy it is to turn that piece of rough fabric into burlap art.
You don’t need a bunch of supplies, a Cricut, Sizzix, or Silhouette machine (though if you have those tools you can certainly use them to make your own burlap decor.
I actually do have a Cricut and a Sizzix machine but most of my burlap art is made with burlap, white acrylic paint, a stencil or printout, and a pencil!
For the most part, I like to keep my burlap projects simple. The texture of burlap already adds a design element to your burlap wall canvas art.

Frosty the Snowman Painted Burlap Canvas Art
This little guy looks way harder to make than he was! Trust me. You do not have to be a skilled painter or be able to draw (I’m horrible at drawing, but my tracing skills are top-notch.)
I wasn’t sure I would like this bright orange burlap at first. I like owls (except for the one who lives in my nearby hood and hoots whenever I am trying to concentrate on something.) This pop of color adds some brightness and cheer to any decor.
This Easter Bunny DIY Burlap piece is even easier to do than the white paint-on-the-burlap look I normally prefer. I love the way the elegant die-cut wooden bunny contrasts with the rustic, frayed burlap. The pastel colored background ties it altogether for an Easter look.
The Saint Patrick’s Day burlap sign is one of my most popular crafts! If you can’t find green burlap, you can dye some burlap with fabric dye! Then you use a super sharp pencil to trace the words and shamrock onto the burlap. This framed burlap sign is cute on a shelf or at a Saint Patrick’s Day party buffet table.
A simple stencil was all it took to make this rustic piece of art. I put it on my book shelf in the fall.
This was one of my earliest pieces of burlap canvas art! The red paint was in honor of Christmas.
