Planning a Disney Cruise sounds exciting… until you realize how many little decisions can affect your trip.

We didn’t expect that part.

Our cruise on the Disney Dream ended up being one of our favorite family vacations—but we also made a handful of mistakes that would have been easy to avoid if we had known what actually mattered ahead of time.

This page pulls together everything we learned so you can skip the trial-and-error part and just enjoy the trip.

Our Disney Dream Cruise Experience

All Disney Cruise Line sailings from Port Canaveral and Miami to the Bahamas and Caribbean will include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise. In a setting of crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white-sand beaches and lush landscapes, the island offers activities for every member of the family. (David Roark, photographer)

For a lot of families, a Disney Cruise is something you plan and save for.

That was definitely the case for us.

Which is exactly why doing a little prep ahead of time makes such a big difference. The goal isn’t to plan everything perfectly—it’s just to avoid the small things that end up being frustrating once you’re on the ship.

Because once you’re there, you want to be relaxing—not realizing you forgot something simple.

What Actually Made the Trip So Good

The best parts weren’t just the big moments.

It was everything in between:

  • relaxing on Castaway Cay
  • dinners that felt like events instead of just meals
  • downtime in the cabin that didn’t feel cramped
  • not having to constantly plan the next thing

And honestly… the kids barely fought, which says a lot.
