My four year old daughter has been very bravely testing out “potty words” on me lately. A few of them have even elicited the age old threat of “I’m going to wash your mouth out with soap.” (The really naughty words get immediate disciplinary attention and not threats…in case you were wondering)
This evening, while I was grabbing Miss Sassypants a towel and she was playing in the bath, I heard her yell “Oh GOD!!!” While this is not a potty word, I have been stressing the “Do not use God’s name in vain” rule lately. So I offhandedly responded, “Watch your mouth or I’m going to wash it out with soap.”
“Mommy! I already did that and I can’t get the soap out my mouth.” I walked back into the bathroom to see my little rebel trying to scrub the taste off her tongue with her hand, while rinsing her mouth out with water.
Maybe next time the threat will hold more water.
