    Not a bad lens.
It's not a bad lens, but it's not for me. People were calling it a dupe for a really crisp and expensive Canon lens, but I just don't see it. The photos I took with this were not bad, but they weren't that great when it comes to depth of field, and if you want really good photos with this, then you need to use a tripod. You really have to know how to work the lens and camera to get a good photo. I have had better 3rd part lenses. But, for the price, it's not a bad lens at all. All photos posted are unedited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for portrait work and creative shots
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2020
I admit I was slow to jump on the bandwagon for purchasing a 50 mm lens and purchased this to see how often I would use it before making the investment in a brand name lens for my Canon camera. But out of the box worked amazing. They say it is better to invest in good glass than fancy equipment for your photography and I tend to agree. But for the price this lens is well worth the money spent on it and arrived quickly and well padded. Came with everything I needed to put it on my camera and start shooting with no need for anything special added to the mix. No conversion adapter, no special filter required, snapped onto the body of my canon and I was ready to shoot. A little loud in the focusing but using my smart phone was easy to focus in what I wanted and get some truly amazing self portraits with. Prefer to experiment with my own images before I take any new equipment to do a clients work. Am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this is a necessary lens for a beginner photographer to learn more about their art and get some amazing shots with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as namebrand but cheaper
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2019
I'll admit, I was a little wary of getting an off brand lens but reviews made me go for it. This is nearly 100 bucks cheaper than Canon, but just as good. When you're not used to a prime lens it does take some getting used to. The picture of the black floppy eared was my first picture with this lens about six months ago, you can see it's a little off focus of the eyes. Completely human error. The other pictures are my latest and once you get the hang of it, this lens is amazing. I know it's usually recommended as a portrait lens but it works just as well for action shots (and I shoot dogs, so 85% of mine are action). It blurs and bokehs the background SO beautifully. That third image of my dog running would not be so focused on him, he'd probably be blurry if I had been using my original lens. The other pictures are to show how well the lens focuses on the subject, even with twigs or trees in front, they're beautifully blurred and the subject stands out. This is my go-to lens for sure.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 5, 2019
I've very happy with the image quality from this lens. The F1.8 Aperture shows great depth of field.
The only disappointment is the speed of the auto focus, it's quite slow, fine for most portraits and landscapes but it struggles to keep up with any action shots.
    Overall great value.
