The soft grip handle helps keep the knife from slipping and causing an injury.
The knife is very well made and is recommended if you use a knife for anything.
The blades don’t feel flimsy or anything, and I figured they would wear down over time, but this was a bit quick.
I’d still recommended, just order some backup blades too.
While not being ‘heavy’, it does have a really nice weight to it and it fits the hand quite well. Which is a help when trying to create a tight & precise cut. It feels like you’re holding onto something substantial which was always something I faulted ‘Brand X’ about. Even though theirs are also metal, they’re so light I often felt distracted thinking the tube handle was about to fail. Even when it wasn’t a heavy cut. Even one stray thought about a scalpel blade flying out of a handle is enough to degrade your precision. Perhaps not a HUGE problem - but one I seemed to have.
The orange grip is also really comfortable. Cushioned enough to save your fingers from fatiguing. Yet the feel of the blade isn’t affected at all.
Changing the blades is a snap. It’s a tried and true design, essentially a collet, which secures the blade very well.
Even if you’re not into craft work, everyone needs this sort of knife occasionally. My ‘craft’ is guitar building & I use this several times a day. This Fiskars option is superior AND at a competitive price. Usually lower than any of the others. Kind of a no-brainer.
