What I like about these:
(1) They're basically disposable. I do try to clean them, but if there is any doubt that a product I have used with one of these is not coming out or has damaged the sponge, I just toss it (without feeling guilty).
(2) I have found that the sponge parts stay on the sticks pretty well. I can't say if that's true after 20 uses (I'm rotating through the ones I bought rather than using the same one over and over again) but it is true after say, 3 or 4 uses.
(3) I like the effects I get with metal paints. I had seen a piece of jewelry online I was trying to make something similar to. It was embossed copper and it had three different colors, but they kind of overlapped or bled into each other in a lovely way. I didn't see that working with regular paint brushes where you get a solid line. But with these sponges, you can kind of dab on color, let it dry, dab on a bit more, etc., and end up with a lovely multicolored piece with more diffuse edges between the colors instead of stark lines. (By waiting for the color to dry between applications, you avoid doing things like mixing red and green paint while they're wet, which would not turn out looking very nice.) You can even cut bits off the sponge to give it a different shape if that is something you are looking for.
So anyway, these worked great for my intended use for them. I occasionally grab one for other reasons, like fixing small areas of stain on self-assembled bookshelves, so it is nice that you get 25 in a package -- you can dedicate them to many purposes around the house. I know my primary use is kind of specific and unusual, but these are versatile. Anywhere you think you can use a little foam brush, these will probably work.
I would definitely recommend these but keep in mind that there is a reason so many of them come in a pack! They get worn out way too easily!
